Every 10 minutes a new person is added to the national transplant waiting list. Every day, 20 people die because they didn't receive their gift of life in time.
I am running in honor of my dad, Michael Askren. He received a double lung transplant in 2009. We were lucky enough to get an extra 13 years with our best friend and the greatest man we’ve ever known thanks to our gracious donor and their family. We sadly said goodbye to our best friend on December 22nd. There will never be enough words to say thanks to our incredible donor and the healthcare professionals who made these extra years possible with our big guy. We miss him beyond words but our so grateful for our time with him. He was able to see my brother and I graduate, be a part of both of our weddings, go on many trips and a special 40th wedding anniversary trip with my mom and so many more special memories. ❤I'm participating in the Donor Dash to support of Iowa Donor Network and their mission Working Together to Transform Lives Through Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation.
